Olamide’s rap single ‘Durosoke’ is probably the biggest hit he’s released in his entire rap career. Interestingly, we are told the genesis of the song is laced with some controversy.
Sources tell NET that the concept of the beat for the syrupy rap/dance tune was stolen and recreated specifically for the rapper.
NET has learnt that the instrumental was originally crafted by Lagos-based producer Tyrone.
The beat maker, who has in the past produced for Olamide (‘Voice of the streets‘), allegedly invited the rapper to pick some beats for his then upcoming LP ‘Baddest Guy Ever Liveth’. Olamide heard one of the beats and was very interested in it but due to time constraints could not finish up his session. He however left with a sample of the instrumental.
Sources tell us ‘Tyrone was shocked to hear the same beat for ‘Durosoke’, slightly remodelled by Olamide’s frequent music collaborator Mr Pheelz. Tyrone was not credited for co-production’.
Pheelz is a 19-year-old music producer who has crafted some of Olamide’s biggest hits including ‘First of all’, ‘Anifowose’, ‘Eleda mi’ and many more.
‘He was surprised when he heard ‘Durosoke’ but let it slide. He doesn’t want it to turn it into an issue,’ a close friend of Tyrone’s told NET.
We reached Olamide’s camp over the matter but they declined to comment.
Reports say Olamide is back in the studio and is already recording his fourth album. One of the producers on the project is Tyrone, so we guess there really is no beef between them.
