In an interview with NET, Nigeria-born international fashion designer, Ade Bakare has shed more light on this as he explains why thin models are preferred by fashion designers.
According to Ade Bakare, ‘The idea of using slim models is a very western concept, the idea being that most people want to be slim so they represent people’s desires, also fashion designers love working with slim tall models. It’s believed they show the clothes off to the best advantage especially with proportions, they also walk and sway better it is perceived.’

The designer who is also known for his ready to wear and bridal lines also added, ‘a tall lady easily captures ones attention, then imagine them dressed up in attention grabbing clothes, this makes a good photo and story ,hence the press is captivated by these images and they catch the attention of the public, designers have a responsibility to show something new and innovative hence the term designer.’
Ade Bakare has designed a collection of Day and evening wear dresses twice seasonally that sold to boutiques in England and the channel Islands such as Lucienne Phillips of Knightsbridge, Adele Davis of old bond street, the foundation of guild fond and Ambers of Amersham.
