D’banj wins ‘Best African Act’ at World Music Awards as Nigeria loses 72 times

D’banj has brought home the only win for Nigeria at the 2014 World Music Awards.

Out of 73 nominations for Nigerians, the artiste won the ‘Best African Act’ award at the show, held on May 27, 2014 at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Nominations, which were revealed earlier in the year, saw almost 20 Nigerian music artistes vie for several awards including ‘World Best Song’, ‘World Best Album’ and ‘World Best Live Act.’

Nominees included 2face Idibia, Waje, Psquare, Iyanya, Tiwa Savage, Banky W, Femi Kuti, Praiz, Modenine, and Seyi Shay, among others.

‘Thank you God, thank you Africa, eh cover me meeen’, D’banj said in a short video Instagram days after his win. The singer also performed live on stage.
