Some young fresh actors of African descent are being recognised in the newest issue of W Magazine, getting spots on their 2015 Best Performance List and David Oyelowo is one of them.
The British actor, who was born to Nigerian parents, is recognised for his upcoming role as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights film, Selma. He was recently awarded the Best Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
According to David, who wore a Christopher Kane shirt for the shoot by the magazine, ‘Being British, I was able to play Martin Luther King Jr. as a human being rather than as an icon, a historical figure, a holiday. He wasn’t part of my life the way he is for African-Americans. They grew up with photographs of Jesus, JFK, and Dr. King in their homes.’
