Conrad Murray, former doctor of late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has filed a notice of appeal against his conviction of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the singer.
On November 29, 2011, Murray was handed a four-year jail term by a Los Angeles Superior Court three weeks after a jury found him guilty of being responsible for the death of Michael Jackson in 2009.
According to defense Lawyer, Nareg Gourjian, the embattled doctor ‘disagrees with the jury’s findings and the pre-trial rulings made by the court’ and has taken the initiative to challenge the judgement at the appeal court.
The notice of the appeal was signed by Murray himself, indicating that he would be representing himself when the matter comes up in the appeal court.
Murray’s trial lawyers have complained that a series of pre-trial decisions by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor limited their ability to defend the doctor.
Judge Michael Pastor barred the defense from introducing evidence and testimony about Jackson’s history of drug use and his past finances.
Murray’s four-year sentence, unless overturned on appeal, is expected to keep the doctor in jail for only two years since state rules give him credit for two days served for every one day behind bars.
