The news of Joke Silva becoming the Head Judge for the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) got a lot of attention.
Notably, former Head Judge Femi Odugbemi was the first to congratulate her, reacting to the NETNG report with the message: “Huge congratulations, Ore! The awards are in very safe hands as it goes forward and upwards.”
At the AMVCA press conference in Lagos, Silva made it clear that the awards are based on quality, not popularity. She also praised Odugbemi for the work he did in improving the awards and keeping the standards high. With her long career and strong reputation, many believe she will take the AMVCA to an even higher level in 2026.
Odugbemi, who led the judging process for the 11th edition, and has been the Head judge for several editions too, is well known for his work in film and television across Africa. He has created projects like The Nigerian Woman, Lagos: The City of Dreams, and The Life and Times of Bola Ige, all focused on telling real African stories. His support for Silva shows confidence in her ability and reflects a shared commitment to growing African cinema.
