As the year comes to an end, residents of Abuja and its environs are in for a visual treat as COLLOCATION, an exhibition by five highly experimental and profound Nigerian Artists opened recently at the Thought Pyramid Art Gallery, Abuja.
This exhibition is a platform through which the artists comment on diverse socio-economic and political issues in the society. The remarkable exhibition offers fresh plastic idioms that are radical departures from art inspired by sycophancy and it is an opportunity for the viewing public, art collectors and critics to witness the works of these revolutionary painters as the line-up includes Francis Ike, Chike Obeagu, Uche Uzorka, Muyiwa Akinwolere and Bob-Nosa Uwagboe.
This remarkable exhibition is a highlight of the Abuja art market as it showcases the creativity, ingenuity, and inspiration of these experimental artists in over thirty superb images-pointers to the artists being masters in their own right and great minds capable of generating innovative ideas.
“They understand their thematic materials and tools so well that they are able to manipulate them effectively to achieve desired results giving works that attest to their comprehension of the restraints and mobility of diverse materials which they employ to come up with fresh vistas,” said the gallery’s creative director Jeff Ajueshi.
“They also fall under a few restless and relentless explorers that probe the physical in a bid to re-order what has been in existence. To quote Bernard Shaw, “Some men see things as they are and ask, “WHY?”. Others dream things that never were and say, “WHY NOT”.
What’s more? COLLOCATION is a rich visual banquet which these artists have professionally prepared and placed for the public to savour.”
The exhibition ends on December 17.
