Multiple reports are claiming that Kayode Peters, the University of Lagos graduate who worked as a stage actor, comedian, show runner, and serial entrepreneur, making a name for himself and earning international acclaim, before relocating to Canada, has passed on.
Nigerian Entertainment Today can not yet independently confirm this, and his friends and colleagues who spoke with our editors declined to comment when contacted.
Yet, several Nigerian newspapers and blogs, including People’s Gazette and Zebra News, are reporting that Peters, who would have clocked 50 in September 2025, has passed.

Comedian Tee A told Netng he could not comment as he did not yet have any information. One of Peter’s closest friends and frequent collaborators, Basketmouth, was not available to comment, according to an assistant who spoke with Netng. Steve ‘Yaw’ Onu, who was quoted by a Nigerian newspaper as having confirmed his friend’s passing, did not pick up or return calls.
The Adewumi Family has now confirmed the death of the Nollywood legend. In a statement shared on Instagram and seen by Nigerian Entertainment Today, Kayode Peters passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025 in Toronto, Canada.
“KP braved, challenged and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath this morning. KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, a gifted film-maker, actor and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed, the statement reads.
The family also asked for privacy as they take the time to make arrangements for his funeral and to heal. As we grieve this painful loss, we kindly ask for kindness and privacy while we take time to make arrangements for his funeral and to heal. Further details will be shared in due course.
