It’s a sad day for the music industry in Nigeria.
We have just confirmed, from multiple sources, including a close associate of the Igbokwes, that ‘lady of songs’ Christy Essien-Igbowke is dead.
The musician-turned politician, mostly known for her ’80s hit ‘seun rere’ is believed to have passed today, after a brief illness.
Her husband is quoted to have said ‘she was ill for three days’.
Her son Kaka, who is also a musician, is also confirming that his mom has passed.
The late musician was the first president of the Performing Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
Her last major outing was at the finale of Nigerian Idol in March.
