‘Love is giving someone the power to destroy you…but trusting them not to’ – Unknown.
Could any week go by in the world of entertainment without Pop stars Chris Brown and Rihanna’s names not being mentioned in the same sentence?
From court trials to secret hangouts, club fights, nudity, drug use, police arrests, on-off dating and many more troubling scenarios, CB and Riri have got it covered.
The similarities between the young couple and another famous couple – Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston is becoming more glaring by the day.
After a three-year courtship, Bobby and Whitney got married in July, 1992 and thus began one of the most high profiled, turbulent love relationships of the nineties. The marriage was scarred with controversies ranging from drug abuse, violence, court cases and more (didn’t we just state the same things above?).
Commercial Success and eventual failure
Something that is however intriguing is the fact that their careers soared so high during the whole public drama. Whitney and Bobby (who later struggled) sold millions of records; Chris Brown and Rihanna are doing same right now.
But with too many controversies plaguing Bobby and Whitney’s careers, things took a different turn – Bobby’s singing career nosedived and Whitney headed for rehab. A few comeback attempts helped Whitney until her untimely death.
While Rihanna has enjoyed commercial success from seven albums since her debut in 2005, Chris Brown has been on a topsy turvy ride. After his assault on his ‘girl’ in 2009, his career plummeted only for him to resurface two years later.
Is Death Certain?
No one can say, and millions of fans worldwide would wish this couple save themselves before they wreck each other.
But, with the way things are going, it’s getting quite certain that disaster may be around the corner.
Whitney Houston died in February 2012 reportedly from Cocaine use. We’ve seen those Instagram photos of Rihanna playing around with Marijuana and that fine white… Not a good look, right?

Osagie Alonge, this is lazy journalism. Sharing the same sour name as Bobby & race for that matter doesn’t mean same life. these 2 make headlines not cos gossip sites are being truthful but cos they help generate hits for sites who’ll do anything to get internet traffic.
Bobby went into a relationship with Whitney already a father to several kids by different women. Cocaine habit by both ruined them plus his drinking issues. They had obvious problems meeting album deadlines and being creative.
Whitney born with a diamond spoon in her mouth – Rihanna truly started from the bottom. Bobby Brown couldn’t perform even when help was at hand while CB whilst facing a hostile media bent on ending his career has featured in lots of work by other artists, still remains a big hit on radio play charts and has managed 2 #1s out of 3 album releases post 2009.
On the drugs, i ain’t a fan but let’s deal with facts out there – CB was randomly tested until mid 2012 for drugs(never failed) until he got his marijuana prescription thing as allowed in Cali whereas Bobby & Whitney were junkies.
Simple question – can you truly compare the work ethic of Riri & CB to Bobby & Whitney? not a chance!! Riri’s on her 7th album at age 25 while CB has released a single from his 6th album – Brown struggled after ‘Don’t Be Cruel’1988……an alcoholic at an early age, who later used cocaine and crack, but also heroin…
Are Riri & Breezy really worse off than Gaga who has posted pics puffing on that weed on her twittr site or Justin Bieber who has been caught smoking..
Osagie Alonge, you needn’t jump on bandwagons – be different & independent!!!
