The trio of Paul Okeugo, Audu Maikori, and Yahaya Maikori, the popular Chocolate City head honchos were all missing yesterday at the launch of rapper and Chocolate City act Jude ‘M.I’ Abaga’s record label Loopy Music.
M.I launched the label which had been in existence for some years now, yesterday night, Wednesday, April 11, 2011 at a special Industry Nite event held at Oriental Hotel, in Lekki Lagos. The Jos Town rapper used the weekly event as an opportunity to showcase his label Loopy Music and it’s signed artistes who all had a go at performing a couple of songs.
Other than himself, five other artistes were unveiled last night – long-time friends and fellow Chocolate City label mates Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz along with Neo-Soul singer Ruby, Rock band Threadstone and upcoming rapper Loose Kaynon.
Supported by new digital media company Spinlet, guests who thronged the Ball Room of the Oriental Hotels were treated to three hours of highly commendable performances from all Loopy acts with the newbies – Ruby, Threadstone and Loose Kaynon stealing the show.
The new acts seemed to sync rather well with the live band even though the sound quality was unfortunately poor.
M.I also used the opportunity to announce the launch of his website MIABAGA.COM and the release of a new mixtape ‘Illegal Music 2’. ‘It’s been a long time coming; I owe these people, my Loopy people a lot. It’s an opportunity for those with the less-looked-upon genres to shine too’, the short black boy explained.
The event was attended by quite a number of industry personalities, artiste managers and the very popular acts such as 2face Idibia, Timaya, Sound Sultan, Modenine and several others.
