Brazilian team Chapecoense has been invited to partake in Barcelona‘s 2017 Joan Gamper Trophy.
The Joan Gamper Trophy is an annual friendly organised by the Spanish club in which they face a select club.
‘Barcelona would like to collaborate on the institutional and sporting reconstruction of the club, and help to recover the competitive level that it had,’ Barcelona’s official website states.
The match with Chapecoense is expected to be a significant tribute to the 71 players and staff that lost their lives in a plane crash on November 28.
The Brazilian club suffered the tragedy on their way to play the final of Copa Sudamericana in Colombia, which was awarded to them days later.

The pre-season friendly will be played in August 2017 at the Camp Nou stadium before the start of FC Barcelona’s La Liga season.
Recent participants of the Joan Gamper Trophy are Italian clubs Sampdoria, AS Roma and Napoli, as well as Brazilian club Santos.
