Celine Dion is set to make a powerful return to the stage, announcing a new concert series in Paris despite her ongoing battle with Stiff Person Syndrome. The Canadian music icon revealed that she will be performing at the La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 14, marking a major milestone in her recovery journey.
The announcement comes nearly two years after Dion publicly disclosed her diagnosis in December 2022. Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurological condition with autoimmune features that leads to severe muscle stiffness, spasms, and heightened sensitivity to external stimuli such as sound, touch, and emotional stress. Although there is currently no cure, treatments like muscle relaxants and anti-anxiety medications can help manage symptoms and slow its progression.
In May 2023, Dion was forced to cancel her tour due to the debilitating effects of the illness, leaving fans uncertain about her future on stage. However, hope was reignited on Monday when the singer shared a heartfelt video on Instagram to celebrate her 58th birthday, revealing that her health has significantly improved.
“I want to let you know that I am doing great, managing my health. I’m feeling good, I’m singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing,” she said, offering an uplifting update to her global fanbase.
Celine Dion also took a moment to express deep appreciation for the unwavering support she has received throughout her health struggles. She credited her fans’ prayers, kindness, and love for helping her navigate some of her most challenging moments.
Describing her upcoming Paris residency as “the best gift” of her life, Dion said she is both excited and ready to reconnect with her audience. “I am getting the chance to see you, to perform for you once again in Paris. Beginning in September this year. I am so happy, I am so ready to do this. I am feeling good and strong,” she added.
