Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has stepped down from his position.
The Spaniard who took over the realm of the Catalonian side last season is bowing out due to medical reasons.
Vilanova had a tumour removed in his throat late 2011. He suffered a relapse last year and had to go through surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
His departure is a big blow to Barcelona. ‘Tito Vilanova will not continue on the Barca bench. After evaluating Tito’s routine tests, the treatment to follow will be incompatible with being the first-team coach. I want to ask for respect for the privacy of this process’ said Barcelona FC president Sandro Rosell in a press conference on Friday. Joan Francesc Ferrer is likely to replace Tito as Barca’s interim coach.
