Although a ladies man, it was known that Fela Kuti wasn’t much of a gentleman and he eventually became a misogamist of sorts. Also, we have realized that the late Afrobeat maestro was not a fan of gender equality.
In his classic song ‘Lady’, you will find lines like; “Lady go say she equal to man… she go want make man wash plate for am… But African woman know say man na master, she go cook for am”.
Now the big question; can anyone who stands for gender equality and feminism support Fela Kuti at the same time?
