The African Afrobeats movement continues its Grammy dominance trajectory as Burna Boy and Ayra Starr submit powerful entries for the 2026 awards, reinforcing the genre’s undeniable impact on global music.
Burna Boy, the self-proclaimed African Giant who has become a Grammy regular, entered his latest album No Sign of Weakness, for consideration in the Album of the Year and Best Global Album categories. This follows his previous Grammy success and positions him once again among the elite tier of global music creators competing for the Recording Academy’s highest honours.
The Grammy-winning artist also submitted his soulful track Love for Best African Music Performance, while his collaboration with French artist Joé Dwèt Filé, Kampé III, was entered for Best Global Music Performance—a category that received 525 entries this year, making it the fifth most competitive category overall.
Rising star Ayra Starr, representing the new generation of Afrobeats excellence, made bold moves by entering her hit Hot Body for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. These submissions place the young vocalist in direct competition with the biggest names in global music, including her collaborator Wizkid, across categories that collectively received over 1,900 entries.
Starr also submitted Gimme Dat, her collaboration with Wizkid, for both Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video, doubling down on the track’s commercial success and visual appeal. This strategic move highlights the collaborative spirit driving Afrobeats’ global expansion.
With first-round voting running until October 15, both artists represent different chapters of the same success story—Burna Boy as the established torchbearer and Ayra Starr as the ascending force proving that African music’s Grammy moment is not a trend but a sustained movement.
