Senator Bukola Saraki representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, has been elected unopposed as the President of the 8th Senate. Saraki, a former Kwara State governor and son of late political godfather, Olusola Saraki, was elected unopposed by 57 out of 108 Senators.
The 51 Senators, most of whom are of the APC like Saraki including Sen. Ahmed Lawan, his main opponent, were absent at the Red Chambers at the time and were believed to be holding a meeting with the leaders of the ruling party.
Saraki, a popular chieftain of the ruling party APC, had been endorsed by the main opposition, the PDP a few days earlier and was was sworn-in at exactly 10.37 am today, June 9, 2015.
