We’ve just confirmed, from multiple sources that Babatunde Omidina, the veteran Yoruba comic actor popularly called Baba Suwe, was last night allegedly arrested by immigration officers at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, in Lagos, for being in possession of Cocaine.
The popular actor was on his way to Paris, France to attend a naming ceremony of an Air France staff scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011. He was supposed to be the master of ceremony at the event.
The 53-year-old actor who lost his wife Monsuratu Omidina on Thursday, September 3, 2009, had been the subject of repeated rumours over illicit hard drugs, but he consistently and vehemently denied having anything to do with Cocaine and other banned substances.
But airport sources are now confirming to Nigerian Entertainment Today, that Baba Suwe was allegedly nabbed last night while attempting to depart Lagos for Paris on a 10pm scheduled Air France flight AF3051.
‘He was arrested and taken into custody by the FAAN and airport immigration’ a source at MMIA tells us.
Details still sketchy for now, but we’re working to get details, as well as reactions from colleagues.
Omidina is not the first Nigerian actor to be arrested for drug trafficking; in 2006 Yoruba Movie Actress, Wunmi Yetunde was also arrested by the NDLEA for cocaine possession and in 2007, Nollywood actor, Tochi James was nabbed on his way to London for the same offense .
