Big Brother Naija has created the most entertaining and talked-about show for the past three years but there have been four seasons of the show.
The reality show started in 2006 as Big Brother Nigeria. But they took an 11-year-long hiatus after the first season until 2017. The first season created two famous people, the two-time NET Honours winner – Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and award-winning actor, Gideon Okeke.
When the show returned in 2017, viewers were more than ready to receive it and it had a successful run. The second season of the show was titled ‘See Gobbe’ and it created another set of celebrities who have taken their careers forward since the end of the show. ‘See Gobbe’ housemates, Bisola Aiyeola, Efe, Uriel, and T-Boss are some of the biggest social media influencers right now. Bisola, Thin Tall Tony, T-boss and Somadina have also created careers for themselves in Nollywood since the show aired in 2017.
The third season, ‘Double Wahala’ was bigger than any of the other seasons. The cash price was increased along with the number of days the housemates were expected to stay in the house. Just like the previous season, the ‘Double Wahala’ season created a new set of celebrities. Housemates like Tobi Bakre, Cee-C, Alex, Bam Bam, Teddy-A, Ifu Ennada, have become household names in Nigerian popular culture.
Just last year in 2019, the fourth and biggest Big brother Naija season till date ‘Pepper Dem’ aired. Fans are still reeling from that season and two of the biggest fan bases in the history of the show was created. The ‘Mercenaries’ and ‘The Titans’ have become a regular part of pop culture discussions.
The show is gearing up for its fifth season and online auditions are already underway. Fans are excited to see what direction it will take while others are waiting with bated breath to be chosen to be a part of Big Brother’s Hall of Fame.
Big Brother Naija won the NET Honours ‘Most Popular Event’ for the second time in a row. It is NET Honours Class of 2020’s ‘Most Popular Event’ and no other show or entertainment event could even come close.
