Big Brother Nigeria, Africa’s biggest reality TV show, and the world’s most successful Big Brother franchise, has clinched the award for Most Popular Event at the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards.
NET Honours recognises achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of audience search results, social media interactions and trends, taking into account the year in review.
Big Brother Naija, which has run for five successful seasons, emerged as the winner from a keenly-contested category that included The Voice, Nigerian Idol, The Headies and MTN Y’ello Star.
Since 2006, Big Brother Naija has provided premium entertainment for viewers across the continent. Season after season, it has consistently delivered top-notch drama, excitement, banter and talking points. In 2020, Big Brother Naija: Lockdown attracted 900 million votes across all platforms, including SMS and online voters.
The show has also served as a springboard to launch the careers of those who participate in it. Former housemates have gone on to become successful actors, music artistes, OAPs, models and entrepreneurs. Bisola Aiyeola, first runner-up at Big Brother Naija: See Gobe, is currently one of Nollywood’s fast-rising actresses. Laycon, who won last year’s edition, channelled the support from his huge fan base into pushing his music and recently released his debut album, Shall We Begin.
