Ayeni Adekunle, founder and CEO of BHM Group, will be speaking at the fourth edition of the MTN Business of the Arts workshop on Friday, August 28, 2020 alongside Vice President, International Strategy & Operations at Warner Music Group, Temi Adeniji, Country Manager, ViacomCBS Network, Africa, Bada Akintunde-Johnson, Founder and CEO, Now Muzik, Efe Omorogbe, and CEO MusicTime, Oye Akideinde.
Ayeni Adekunle can be described as a man who understands the art of communication and the science behind it. As the founder and CEO of BHM Group, a group of companies setting the pace in the PR, marketing, media and communications sectors in Nigeria, Ayeni led the wave of digital first strategy in the Nigerian communications industry.
Starting off as an entertainment journalist cum writer and editor, Ayeni quickly became a renowned and respected voice in the Nigerian entertainment industry for his insightful and critical narrations. Soon he became a sought out publicist to many celebrities and clients between 2006 and 2009; including 2face Idibia, Lagbaja, Wizkid, Weird MC, Kennis Music, KISS music, Grafton records, among others.
In 2006, Ayeni directed his interests towards public relations for organisations and brands, and so Black House Media, a public relations and digital communications company was born. Ayeni could already see the potential technological disruption of the traditional PR industry.
In 2015, he launched the #PRisDead campaign, to shed light on the stark realities of traditional PR agencies in Nigeria. Technology was rendering several of their services redundant as social media’s on-the-spot storytelling was giving PR’s slower paced efforts a run for its money.
A year after the #PRisDead campaign, BHM announced the release of the first edition of its annual industry report, the Nigeria PR Report. The Nigeria PR Report contained a detailed analysis of the history, current reality, challenges and prospects of the PR industry in Nigeria. The company also launched Nigeria’s first-ever PR App.
Under the expert leadership of Ayeni Adekunle, the BHM Group has grown to house BlackHouse Media, a public relations outfit; ID Africa, a digital marketing and media company and Plaqad, a marketing technology company that connects individuals, and brands with expert content creators, influencers and publishers and media inventory owners around the world.
The Business of the Arts Series is an initiative launched by the MTN Foundation in partnership with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), to educate music scholars about the intricacies of the music industry, the art, the culture, the people and most importantly, the business.
