I went from the story telling Hip Hop music to Trap, High life, Rock and many other genre of music not popular with Nigerians. All these music affected me and I now know that the music one listen to has power over one’s life.
An example is Trap Music which involves taking a mix of purple (codeine) with a little promethazine and sprite. At this point, life slows down so fast that your worries are reduced to a man spitting nothing on a track. Just like what Terry G does but in a slow and more orderly way.
Trap Music is for humans that write with their five fingers at once; just imagine how ridiculous that is. It never really makes sense except under the influence of some psychedelic substances. A very smart and determined man like me went from 100 to 0 in 2 months.
Music has great psychological effect on the human mind but many are not conscious of the fact. When you constantly hear your favourite act talk about the same activities, you think it is the norm of life. At this point, you will be living in a fool’s paradise, blindly following him\her and his\her lyrics.
If you think I am lying, let me give you some examples of some ‘You Can’t’.
- You can’t listen to Olamide and not want to drop out of school, do yahoo yahoo, sleep around, be socially unacceptable and blame it on the ‘streets’.
- You can’t listen to The Weeknd and not want to pop pills, have sex in a disturbing ways and love darkness.
- You can’t listen to Wiz Khalifa and not want to light a blunt, withdraw from society and be alone with your thoughts.
- You can’t listen to Drake and not want to experience love, become rich, then forget about love.
- You can’t listen to Young Thug and not do a lot of codeine leading to behaving really awkward.
- You can’t listen to Kendrick, J.Cole, Wale, MI and not want to do better, stay in school and be the best at whatever you do.
- You can’t listen to Asa, Jhene Aiko, Lana Del Ray and not want to live a quiet, simple life.
- You can’t listen to Kanye and not want to have so much money just to be proud.
The You Can’t list is endless and it is awfully sad that many average Nigerians are living the artiste lifestyle at the detriment of their future.
Good music affects many different areas of our lives and can transform an ordinary day into something magical, even spiritual. It can provide solace, release, strong sensations and more.
Bad music also affects different areas of our lives and can transform an ordinary day into something treacherous. It can cause chaos, intense pressure, behaviour modification and many negative impacts on one’s psyche.
Music is an integral part of my life and it determines my mood, as it does to all people. One can even say that the aggressive and loud behaviour of many Lagosians, especially bus conductors can be traced to the kinds of music they listen.
Music is conscious, Music is beautiful, Music is Life. It should be treated with respect and caution, for out of it flow the power over life itself.
