I am having fun in South Africa. This is our second week in the house and my fellow housemates are very cray. A lot has happened, I’m still trying to adapt, but it seems love or infatuation is driving me and I have quickly forgotten why I am here. This is an account of all that went on in my life last week. We have been really busy so I have not had time to share.
It’s Friday, we step out for our morning workout but my biting menstrual pain starts. It’s terrible and very painful as I try to do the sit-ups and squats. “One, two, three…” Tobi and Ifu Eenada are screaming. Lolu is looking at me, I can tell he is not concentrating. “Left leg, right leg…” Tobi and Ifu are still screaming. I start to breathe in short pants. “Lolu you are not concentrating. We are not here to play!” Tobi tells Lolu, but he ignores him. We are still trying to exercise but suddenly, I pass out.
lt was evening when I opened my eyes to find Lolu by my bed side, his hand is on my weave. Bambam is here too, she is kabashing. I smile in my mind; I know I’m not sick. “Bambam, you are disturbing her, she is tired”, Lolu says angrily. “I am praying for her. She cannot afford to be sick while I am a born-again Christian, Big Brother even said it”, Bambam insists. I laugh in my mind as I remember seeing Bambam and Teddy A loved up in the swing bed, but wetin consine me?
“Hi”, I manage to say. Lolu’s face lights up. He holds my hands and takes a deep breath. “Baby, you are awake!” The disappearing butterflies start to appear again. I mean he called me ‘baby’. There is something in Lolu’s words; his voice is my painkiller. “Baby bawo? Wow! I have been lost in this house. You and Gift are an item?” Bambam asks. “I didn’t say we aren’t, I didn’t say we are either”, Lolu answers. Whatever he means by that I hope he really means we are. “Today is the Friday night arena games,” Bambam says. “I already told Big Brother that Gift is sick and he said it’s fine to skip the game,” Lolu says confidently and I’m impressed. I don’t even know what is about to hit me. “And Anto?” Bambam asks almost immediately. “She is great, but she is not my kind of girl. I like them smart…” Bambam cuts Lolu short. “Anto is smart and she is great,” Bambam adds looking confused. “You didn’t allow me to finish. I like…”. Kabiyesi Tobi blows the whistle. I’m surprised Cee.C is not blowing it with him.
It’s time for the games. Lolu pats me on the back. “Baby, we have to go now. Be fine”. Lolu says and I nod. Bambam gives me a warm smile as they both exit.
As the butterflies are about to disappear and my menstrual pain is warming up to destroy my life so I will not win my 45million, Leo walks in. He’s cool, calm and collected. He’s not as noisy as Bitto and he always makes sense. See, I have never had a personal conversation with him, but I have heard him converse with others. I don’t know why he is here.
He sits on my bed and he looks at me. We are the only ones in the room. “Hi Gift,” he says. “Hi Leo,” I reply. “I am sorry I didn’t come to check up on you since. I was trying to bond with my partner. That’s not an excuse though”. I do not understand why he is apologizing. Do I look like his partner? “I carried you to the bed when you fell. How are you feeling now? I am sure it’s menstrual pain.” I am surprised because Lolu didn’t even think its menstrual pain and Leo guessed right.
“Do you take Felvin or Buscopan?” He asks. “Buscopan”, I answer. “Is it close by? You have to take it so you’ll be fine.” I look at Leo and I smile weakly. I feel my stomach is about to be on fire. This menstrual pain is a bitch! “It’s in the red handbag, by the side of the bag, but I’ll get it when I’m stronger. You should go Leo.” I say. “No, I’ll stay here and watch you take your drugs. I overheard you telling Lolu you hate drugs and you’ll prefer an injection. I don’t trust you on this one baby.” He says insisted. He gets the bag, brings out the sachet of Buscopan, gets my water bottle and hands it over to me. Because Leo is present, I take the drugs. I want him to go and partake in the game. Leo seems pleased. “Just rest, relax, you’ll be fine,” He says and then leaves.
After the Friday Night Arena games, Leo comes to my bedside. Leo tells me nothing significant happened during the games. Bitto won in less than 3 minutes, followed by Anto. He serves me dinner (Spaghetti) in bed and we are talking about menstrual cramps. “My sister’s cramps are very painful. When it’s here, we all feel it. She prefers to lie on the floor. It’s always a traumatic period for her. She never looks forward to it. My mum actually tells her that she’ll feel better after her first child.” “Mine is really bad. If I take drugs, the next month, the pain is the worse. I detest that period.” I say calmly. Leo notices that I’m still in pains. He tries to feed me, he takes a forkful of Spaghetti and when he wants to put it in my mouth, Lolu walks in.
“Hi Lolu”, Leo says. Lolu doesn’t answer him. He looks at me disappointed. “Leo now? Feeding you already?” “Lolu, it’s not what you think,” I say calmly. “Guy, why you dey para na?” Leo asks. “Na me you dey ask? Why I no go para. She said she is sick. I expected to see someone in bed helpless”, Lolu says angrily. “Bros na menstrual pain she get, no be cancer,” Leo says defending me. Lolu looks at me, I can see he is angry. “Why were you forming you are dying? My sister goes to work when she’s on her period” Lolu says. “I…” He cuts me short. “You were just looking for an opportunity to be lazy and to flirt with Leo. I see the way you’ve been looking at him…”
