Ayra Starr, one of Nigeria’s fast-rising pop stars, has been confirmed as a star performer at the season finale of Nigerian Idol Season 6, Africa’s biggest music talent show.
After 12 weeks of electrifying music performances and non-stop excitement, Nigerian Idol Season 6 will wrap up with a live show which airs by 7pm on Sunday, July 11, 2021. The online polls have closed, and by the end of the night, the viewing public will find out who wins the competition, and ultimately walks away with N50 million naira worth of prizes.
Ayra Starr, real name Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, was born at Cotonou in Benin Republic on June 14, 2002. She joined her secondary choir when she was 10 years old, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Political Science from Les Cours Sonou University, Benin Republic.
In 2019, she began to upload covers of songs like 2baba’s “Ole” and Andra Day’s “Rise Up” on her Instagram page. In 2020 she was discovered by Don Jazzy, and by January 2021 she had been signed to Mavin Records. Her debut single, “Away”, has become a smash hit.
Other artistes scheduled to perform at this season’s finale include RnB star Chike, award-winning music producer Cobhams Asuquo, and serial hitmaker Patoranking.
The winner of Nigerian Idol Season 6 will walk away with a recording deal of a six-track EP, with music video shoots for three of the songs, and over 50 million Naira worth of prizes which include a ₦30 million cash prize and a brand new SUV.
