Black stars of Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan, has slammed the Confederation of Africa Football for missing out on the final shortlist of the forthcoming Glo-CAF Awards.
Gyan, who plays for Al Ain in Asian League tagged the award organisers as biased against players who do play their football in Europe.
Speaking in a recent interview with GTV Sports, the striker lamented over his exclusion from the final shortlist which parades Gabonese midfielder, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund; Nigerian and Lille FC goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama and current holder of the award, Yaya Toure who plays for Manchester City in England and Ivory Coast.
‘I was a bit disappointed for missing out the final shortlist because I did a lot in 2014 to deserve a place in the final shortlisted players’
‘I laughed about the shortlist that came out because I often think that it is not the best player in Africa who wins the award. It is rather the player who plays in Europe. That is how I judge it.
‘I did a lot last year for club and country. I was the top scorer in Africa during the World Cup qualifying series, and in the Asian League, I was the top scorer, as well as scoring three out of the five goals for Ghana during the Cup of Nations so I deserve a place in the final three,’ he added.
Asamoah Gyan was named the Best Player of Asian League in 2014.
