Nigerian international DJ Jimmy JATT has given Netng the identities of music artistes he would like to collaborate with if he decides to do a remake of his award-winning single ‘Stylee’.
‘Stylee’ was released in 2007, featuring 2Baba, Mode 9, and ElaJoe.
The song is a Lagos anthem highlighting everything good and fascinating about Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Stylee won the ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best Collabo’ at the 2008 Hip Hop World Award (now Headies) and got several nominations.
Oluwaforijimi Adewale Amu, aka Jimmy JATT, who started as a rapper before becoming a DJ in the 1980s, is one of Nigeria’s pioneering DJs and the most accomplished on the continent..
He told Thenetng in an exclusive interview at his studio in Lagos on Thursday, April 15, 2021, that he is not considering a remake of the song yet.
“There have been talks about doing a remake of Stylee, I’ve been the one saying I think the song is too big and too way back to do a remake. I think it’s a classic and we should just leave it like that,” Jimmy Jatt told Netng.
But if he decides to do a remake, the lineup will be full of artistes ‘that Lagos has meant something to’.
“And you know that’s a lot of people. “
“I will put Wiz anyway because truly he’s a Lagos product without a doubt and he’s my boy and I know his story from being a Surulere boy up till now. I’ll surround Wiz with some other guys.”
Wizkid, who grew up in Surulere, put his Lagos childhood experience into the award-winning song ‘Ojuelegba’ released in 2014.
Ojuelegba also addressed some of the themes Jimmy Jatt touched on in ‘Stylee’. The hustling and struggle in Lagos and making music in Lagos.
‘Other artistes’ that could also feature n ‘Stylee’ remix according to Jimmy Jatt’s criteria are Olamide for his song ‘Lagos Boys, Mayorkun for his song ‘Of Lagos’, and Zlatan Ibile for ‘Lagos Anthem’
