Chelsea FC received a shock in the pursuit of Arsenal midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, after he turned down a £40m across London for personal reasons.
The 24-year-old was reportedly close to completing a move to Stamford Bridge days ago, but is now said to favour a move to Liverpool.
Coincidentally, Arsenal got thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool in a Premier League match on Sunday to further pile pressure on the Gunners.
Now, a bid from the Reds in the £40m region is expected before the end of the transfer window on Thursday, September 1.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of a handful of key players in the last year of their contract at Arsenal.
Another is Alexis Sanchez, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal defender, Nigel Winterburn, thinks it will be good if Oxlade-Chamberlain moves to another club for a new challenge.
‘Personally, I think he has had enough at Arsenal. It is time to move on and face a new challenge,’ Winterburn said.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 198 appearances for Arsenal since joining them from Southampton in August 2011.
