NET Honours, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards, will hold on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
NET Honours debuted in 2013 as a special recognition award presented to deserving individuals in the Nigerian entertainment industry during the Nigerian Entertainment Conference Live (NECLive) event. In 2016, it evolved to the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards. Then in 2020, due to the pandemic, the awards went virtual, reaching over 10 million people worldwide.
The awards is a one-of-a-kind platform where we recognise and celebrate some of Nigerians’ favourite celebrities and public figures who shaped the most exciting pop culture topics and events in the year under review.
Info Digital Africa (ID Africa) CEO, Femi Falodun, says “Last year, we took a leap as one of the first awards show to go fully virtual in Nigeria due to the pandemic, and it was widely received by our audience. We recognised over 73 individuals and organisations and reached over 10 million people in 31 countries. This year, we expect to double that on June 20, when we announce the winners.”
NET Honours focuses on recognising achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of online audience search, consumer interest, social media interactions and search trends on ID Africa’s media platforms. Data for the awards is based on audience engagement from a database of over eight million internet users reached across websites, social media and related channels of Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin between June 2020 and May 2021.
Over 90% of the audience on our media properties –– Netng, Neusroom, 234Star, and Orin –– are Nigerians below the age of 40. This means that NET Honours as a platform provides valuable insights into the people, events and pop culture interests that greatly appeal to Nigeria’s digital natives and entertainment content consumers.
For the first time in NET Honours history, we are adding new award categories celebrating the most played songs in Nigeria during the period under review. These awards will include songs across five genres, namely: Pop, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Street Hop and R&B/Soul.
The Most Played Songs categories are based on verifiable data supplied by Corrents, a Nigerian music analytics startup. The company analyses data from airplay on over 100 local radio stations and streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.
NET Honours Class of 2021 will feature 25 categories, including Most Popular Male Musician, Most Searched Female Musician, Most Popular Couple, Most Popular Event, Most Searched Actress, Most Played Alternative Song and many more.
Nominees will be announced on Sunday, June 13, via Netng website; thenet.ng and social media platforms –– @thenetng on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The winners will be announced during a global virtual event on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at 5 pm.
