The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2015 is just a day away – Saturday, March 7, 2015, and we’ve decided to take a look at some of the major categories where a lot of attention and focus will be on.
One of such categories – Best Actress in a Drama – serves up an intriguing contest between a ‘queen of the block’ by all means and standards; Rita Dominic and a dynamic and greatly talented duo who are by now no means pretenders to the crown in any aspect.
The nominees for this category are: Amaka Mgbor (A Place in the Stars), Kehinde Bankole (October 1), Rita Dominic (Iyore), Ivie Okujaye (Make a Move), Joselyn Dumas (Love or Something like That), and Aisha Kamara (Reflections).
This category should go down to the wire between Rita Dominic, Joselyn Dumas, and Kehinde Bankole but Kehinde should pick up the crown eventually. Her role in October 1 was so beautifully delivered – for someone most people would have thought could only do well in full Yoruba movies – and of course, the movie also has some sort of ‘national significance or value’ which gives it a unique sentimental edge.
Although I strongly believe Kemi Lala Akindoju should have been given a looking in this category too for her role in Dazzling Mirage (simply awesome!), this category will be quite interesting to watch as things play out at the awards proper.
