Garbine Muguruza faced World No. 1, Serena Williams at the final game of the Wimbledon Open today, July 11, 2015 losing 6-4 6-4. Here are facts you should known about the rising Tennis star…
* Garbine Muguruza was born on October 8, 1993 in Guatire, Venezuela but currently resides in Barcelona, Spain. Her father hails from Spain while her mum is a national of Venezuela.
* Garbine started playing Tennis at the age of 3 and would go on to join a Tennis Academy in Barcelona when she was barely 6 years old.
*She is currently ranked number 20 in the world while Serena is ranked number 1.
* At the 2014 French Open, Garbine defeated Serena Williams who was also World No. 1 and defending champion in the Quarter Final before eventually losing to Maria Sharapova in the semi-final.
*Today’s game is Garbine’s first grand slam final, a career record for the 21 year old who is 12 years younger than 33 year old Serena.
