On Saturday March 13, 2010, Chocolate City officially put an end to the long anticipated wait at the Tribeca Nite Club in Lagos. The A-list event was Jesse Jagz’s Jag of All Trades, album launch hosted by Dizzy.
Since he first grabbed our attention through M.I’s debut album Talk About It, Jesse Jagz has proved himself as not just a gifted producer but equally an artiste who knows his onions.
Singles ‘‘bend down low’’ and ‘‘Sugarcane baby’’ are currently dominating the airwaves from the South to the North.
Performances
It’s not surprising that Jesse Jagz dominated the stage on his own night. Backed by a live band, he performed song after song off the album with the kind of confidence alien to most debutants. Singer Wizkid gave a good account of himself with the song ‘holla at your boy’; so did rapper Dagrin who posted the most applauded performance of the night. His track ‘Kondo’ had the ladies drooling and asking for more.
Mohits rapper D’prince enjoyed love from guests and colleagues with his wavemaking song ‘omoba’. Singer/ producer Dj Zeez also got people grooving to the club banging songs. ‘‘4 ka sibe and Bobby FC’’.
The good
It’s not suprising to see the weight record label -Cholcolate city now weilds in the industry owing largely to bestselling rapper M.I success. They were able to attract the movers and shakers of Nigerian music industry. Guests included: Mtrill, Omoba, Skales, Zara, Shoboi, Wizkid, 2shotz, GT The Guitarman, Jazzman Olofin, Skuki, Ruggedman, Djinee, Kel and Naeto C.
Rapper M.I came to the event in company of his new manager Lola Adamson.
The bad
Rapper Dagrin needs to be given a lesson on how to manage his fans and the media. The rapper who is the rave of the moment came to the event in company of three hefty looking bodyguards who prevented fans from getting close to the rising rapper. As if that wasn’t enough, they almost assaulted reporters who interviewed the artiste.
It appears fame and the level of success Dagrin has recorded is obviously getting to his head as he was full of airs at the event, failing to even aknowledge cheers from fans. Nevertheless, the loyal fans showed him love when he got on stage to perform his hit song ‘Kondo’; and he gave a good account of himself.
Notable absentee
R&B singer Banky W was conspiously missing at the event. Sources close to the act told NET that he was ‘indisposed and needed to rest’.
What’s next?
With the runaway success rapper M.I has recorded so far, it won’t be out of place to predict his equally-gifted younger brother Jesse Jagz could tow the same line. Chocolate city is proving to be in the music business for ‘business’; NET learnt that rapper Ice Prince is in line to release his debut album very soon…
