Organisers of the biggest live music concert in Lagos – Afropolitan Vibes have increased the gate fee by 200% and many fans are not happy. The 37th edition which comes up on Friday May 20 will see the likes of ‘Shake Body’ hitmaker – Skales with Aramide, Mike Okri and Bantu performing.
Last month, the attendees paid N500 to enjoy Daddy Showkey, Temi Dollface, Tunde Jegede and Bantu perform.
An insider told TheNETng they are trying to raise funds for the park and the show – which has also featured Shina Peters, Nneka, Dammy Krane, Sound Sultan, and Simi. In his words: ‘They are trying to raise funds for the park and Afro-vibes, and the gate fee will remain N1,500 till the end of this year.’
While some fans of the show are pleading that fee be decreased to N1,000, here is what others are saying on Twitter.
Afropolitan Vibes entry fee now N1500? LOL, in this economy? Worth it though. So long the sound and vibe remain excellent.

I’d rather pay 3k for Afropolitan and have a blast than pay 10k to sail & gossip with the same group of Twitter folks. Just saying. — AreULooking@MyTitles (@MadamDropShot) May 14, 2016
Why is Afropolitan charging me for standing?
— KD Doherty (@kaydoherty) May 13, 2016
So you people want to turn Afropolitan vibes to one tausan five hundred naira now. Ma tun ra palmwine o, there’s music at home — Skuri Bebo (@Miss_Andero) May 14, 2016
The 1,500 you want to pay at Freedom Park for Afropolitan Vibes, you’d end up spending it on data bundles on your way there.

Gate fee hike was inevitable though. Just bad timing by Afropolitan Vibes. Lineup isn’t strong enough for a N1500 gate fee. — Jokingly Serious (@olanshile) May 14, 2016
From N200 to N500 to N1,000 to N1,500. Story of Freedom Park.
Weirdly, Afropolitan Vibes organisers don’t get anything from gate takings. — Olu’ (@gboukzi) May 13, 2016
That’s settles it then. Only time I’m going to Afropolitan Vibes and paying 1k5 gate fee is when they bring Sean Tizzle. — Olu’ (@gboukzi) May 13, 2016
At the last Afropolitan vibes bantu mentioned they couldn’t bear the costs anymore on personal funds.

I think afropolitan vibes needs to get a big name, to help save its following. The old guys are fun and cool, but they need an olamide — Tobi (@MrLong_) May 13, 2016

class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en">Lagos people will work a free show for three years & keep wishing it stays free. Paying 1.5k 4 ur enjoyment isn’t alot. @afropolitanvibe — Eyan Eliot (@ajayidami) May 14, 2016
Wasn’t it Freedom Park that was collecting the 500? So Afropolitan was free. And they ran it like that for that long. They tried please.
— Juke. (@iamnotJUKE) May 14, 2016
Let’s not kid ourselves, Afropolitan, running at 500 to get in, was dirt cheap. Might be unwelcomed but the new rate is fair. — Bosun (@bosunescobar) May 13, 2016
