Long-time Afrobeat musician Funsho Ogundipe is back with a new album by his group – Ayetoro titled ‘Ayetoro: Asoju Oba’.
The album which is their sixth according to Ogundipe further extends the direction of the music towards jazz and experimental grooves. ‘It’s also a fusion of Hiphop which makes it a must listen to for lovers of good music’, Ogundipe says.
Funsho Ogundipe began playing piano at age 17 and was a regular at Fela Kuti’s club The Shrine. He performed with Fela in 1988 and formed Ayetoro in 1996 after a successful career in law and business.
He launched into the Nigerian music scene in 1998 with his top 50 hit ‘Something dey’, a blues-flavoured piano-driven tune from an album of the same title.
