Super Eagles goalie, Austin Ejide has faith in the national football team getting past the semi-finals in this year’s Nations Cup tournament in South Africa.
‘I believe we can do much better than we had done in the previous editions. One always hopes for the best and I am optimistic we can do it’ said the Israeli based goalkeeper, who might be Nigeria’s number one choice in between the sticks in South Africa.
Other members of the Super Eagles are also positive about Nigeria’s chances. Eagles’ skipper, Joseph Yobo said ‘I think everything is possible by the grace of God. I have been opportune to be at the last five AFCONs, but you know you can’t predict what is going to happen in a football game and that is why we have been playing friendly matches. There may be surprises at the Nations Cup but I believe that if we can pull through from the group, we will go all the way to the final.‘
The Super Eagles will be hoping to win the African Cup of Nations for the third time.
The first trophy was won in 1980 when Nigeria hosted the tournament and in 1994 in Tunisia. The Super Eagles came close to winning the third time in 2000 but lost to arch-rivals Cameroon via penalty shootout at the National Stadium in Surulere.
