Adekunle Gold has etched his name into Nigeria’s music history books after becoming the first artiste to sell out the newly renovated National Theatre in Lagos, now known as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.
The milestone feat was achieved on December 26, when the Orente crooner filled the 3,560-capacity venue to the brim, delivering a night that blended elegance, artistry, and unforgettable live music.
In recognition of the achievement, Adekunle Gold was presented with two plaques on Thursday, one honouring the management and record label behind the successful concert, and another celebrating him as the first artist to headline and sell out the iconic theatre. The plaque presented to his team read: “Something Different Management, Events, and Record Label. Record label for Adekunle Gold sold out National Theatre event in Lagos, Nigeria.”
The concert itself was a standout experience, featuring a rich fusion of classical orchestration and Afrobeats. Backed by a full orchestra, Adekunle Gold delivered a refined and emotionally charged performance that left fans in awe.
Adding to the night’s excitement, the black-tie event featured a series of memorable moments, including a special appearance by rap icon Olamide. Taking the stage to introduce Adekunle Gold, Olamide described him as a refined and sophisticated performer, praising his artistry and style.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m your host for today. They call me Baddo. I’m here to introduce one of the tiniest, most refined and sophisticated Afrobeats artists — a true embodiment of elegance and top-tier artistry,” Olamide said before welcoming AG Baby to the stage.
The night was further elevated by appearances from music legends Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele, making the concert a celebration of Nigerian musical excellence across generations.
