Valentine’s Day is one of those days everybody (especially women) look forward to, most times for selfish reasons as some of us just look forward to seeing bae’s gift(s).
Some strategically start their man/woman hunt a few weeks before Valentine’s so they won’t be ‘disgraced’ on the day when no gift is sent to them.
Here’s what you’re forgetting, though: Saint Valentine did not die for this. It’s actually supposed to be a day in which you go out of your way to spread love and do your best to make someone smile.
Here are eight other ways you could celebrate the day besides waiting on your boyfriend/girlfriend’s gift.
1. Treat your family to something nice

Charity, they say, begins at home. Why not share the love first with your family, the ones you’ve known all your life?
It doesn’t have to be anything grandiose, but getting everyone a gift will go a long way to showing how thoughtful you are.
2. Give to the less privileged

A lot of us have forgotten that the true essence of Valentin’s is giving, sharing, showing love.
While focusing so much on sexual relationships and partners, we have thrown away the true meaning of the day. Why not put a smile on the faces of those who can barely afford a meal a day?
Nothing is too little to be appreciated.
3. Surprise bae with something thoughtful

Maybe do a collage of the best times you guys have had together or write a list of all the reasons why you appreciate them.
Remember that bracelet he told you he had as a kid and really liked? Look for it. Buy it and send it to him in a pretty little box.
Not every time pant, singlet, good sex.
4. Send cute appreciative messages to your friends

Your friends shouldn’t be left out. Appreciate them for all the years of friendship, recount the good times and tell them how much you’re thankful for their existence.
Trust me, this would mean the world to them.
5. Treat yourself to something nice

While you’re busy sweating over what bae will buy for you or the lack of bae to even buy you anything at all, you’ve forgotten that no one can ever love you like you.
You’re your own biggest cheerleader and no one can love you unless you learn to love you. Treat yourself exactly how you want to be treated.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with ordering a huge cake for yourself that shamelessly reads ‘Happy Valentine’s Day to Me’, or better yet, take yourself out to dinner after work or something as simple as ice cream or a movie.
6. Buy your co-workers some chocolates

Put a sparkle in everyone’s eyes. They don’t cost that much.
You’ll be surprised how much some people are dying to receive even one surprise of display of affection.
7. Go to church or mosque and pray

It’s also a day to be thankful, for everything that you have. Do not forget the big guy up there who’s brought you this far and dedicate a little time to Him, no matter how inconvenient it might be.
8. Treat your pet to some extra pampering

Your pet needs love too. If you can’t afford a spa right now, then maybe a bath with a nice-smelling shampoo you got just for him/her?
Or you could make that special home-made meal you know he totally loves and can’t get enough of.
Put a smile on someone’s face today, there’s no better feeling than that.
No Fields Found.
