
2025 has been packed with major film and TV releases. Many highly anticipated titles like Sinners, Superman, and To Kill a Monkey have already come and gone. We may be nearing the end of the year, but there’s still a slate of buzzworthy releases to look forward to.
We’ve rounded up a list of movies to keep your eyes peeled for through the rest of 2025. From a gothic tragedy in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, to the return of kingmaker Eniola Salami, and a trip back to Pandora in Avatar, there’s plenty still on the way.
Frankenstein

Over the years there have been numerous Frankenstein adaptations, with the latest being acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro’s. This upcoming movie, slated for a November 7 Netflix release, stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the creature he brings to life. It’s a highly anticipated gothic tale of tragedy, creation, and identity that promises to be an emotional retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic.
King of Boys: The Beginning of the End

It’s been seven years since Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys premiered to critical and commercial acclaim, and although fans got a follow-up in 2021 with King of Boys: The Return of the King, they’re still hungry for more. The wait is finally over as a new installment, King of Boys: The Beginning of the End, arrives this Christmas Day. Featuring both familiar and fresh faces, the film is expected to deliver the same high-stakes drama and political intrigue that made its predecessor a standout.
We can’t wait to see what the king herself, the formidable Alhaja Eniola Salami, has planned this time. Now the Governor of Lagos State, she has lost so much and vanquished her enemies, so the question is: what comes next? It will be fascinating to see how the story unfolds come December 25.
Avatar: Fire and Ash

James Cameron’s Avatar franchise began in 2009 and, fifteen years later, remains one of cinema’s most ambitious ongoing sagas. Following the 2022 release of Avatar: The Way of Water, the story continues this December with Avatar: Fire and Ash. The new installment introduces the Ash People, a ruthless Na’vi tribe led by Varang, who threaten the peace of Pandora.
Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their allies must once again fight to protect their home in what promises to be another breathtaking cinematic spectacle. It’s a blockbuster you won’t want to miss.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is slated for release on December 19.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t

In the third installment of the Now You See Me franchise, the Four Horsemen, a team of master illusionists and thieves, make their long-awaited return. This time, they join forces with a new generation of magicians for even more jaw-dropping tricks, clever heists, and twists that blur the line between illusion and reality. Fans can look forward to another dazzling mix of spectacle and suspense when the film hits theaters this November 14.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

Southern gentleman detective Benoit Blanc returns in the latest installment of the Knives Out franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. As always, the film features a fresh ensemble cast, including Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, and Jeremy Renner. This time, the story follows a new murder mystery set in a small town, where a local police officer joins forces with Benoit Blanc to uncover the truth.

Wicked: For Good

Fans of last year’s Wicked have something to look forward to with its follow-up, Wicked: For Good, arriving this November 21. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo return as Glinda and Elphaba, now fully embracing their roles as the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West. This sequel explores how the two women navigate their opposing paths and the emotional toll it takes on their once-deep friendship.
Anaconda

Anaconda, in its many versions, is best known as a creature horror classic, but the upcoming Anaconda starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black takes a comedic turn. The film follows a group of middle-aged friends, played by Rudd and Black, who set out to remake their favorite childhood movie. They soon get more than they bargained for when they come face-to-face with a real anaconda in the wild. It’s set to hit theaters this December 25.
This Is Not a Nollywood Movie

It might be a year of sequels and reimaginings, but there are still a few original stories in the mix. One of them is Wale Ojo’s directorial debut, This Is Not a Nollywood Movie. The film follows Okechukwu, a down-on-his-luck actor trying to revive his career. Yet, rather than a somber tale, it takes a humorous approach, if the teaser is anything to go by.
Slated to hit cinemas on December 5, This Is Not a Nollywood Movie movie stars Wale Ojo as Okechukwu alongside Bimbo Akintola, Hanks Anuku, Chidi Mokeme, and others.
