5 questions with Ruggedman

Nigerian rapper Ruggedman who launched himself into the music industry in 1999 is a graduate of political science from Lagos State University. The veteran rapper recently spoke to NET on what he’s been up to lately.

1. What new project are you working on?

As I speak to you I am about to drop a new song titled ‘Agidi’ featuring Wande Coal.

It’s produced by Tyrone. The song is so hot that somehow, someone stole Wande Coals part of the song and leaked it on the Internet. I felt bad at first because it is the 1st song I am releasing after a long time, but instead of the leak working against me, it worked for me. The leaked part went viral and since they had gotten a taste of the new Ruggedman song, It got them clamouring for the complete song. It is being mixed by Sheyman and it will drop very soon.

I am also getting ready to shoot the video for it. Also dropping on TV real soon is the video for ‘8Figures’ featuring Reminisce, directed by Squareball films. Again part of what I have been up to is manufacturing new wears for my 20th Sept Wear clothing line. I am making them from outside the country because I want the professional standard finishing people are used to. I have snapbacks, t-shirts and hoodies. I have been having meetings with top online stores and I am happy to say they will be handling sales and distribution.

I am actually re-launching with 8Figures hoody’s, t-shirts and snapbacks and they will be available for purchase from online stores from the day 8Figures video is released.

2. How come just Wande Coal’s part was leaked, or is it a publicity stunt?

Wande’s part was recorded at his place and sent to me. I can’t put a finger on where or how someone got a hold of it. I can’t do a publicity stunt with an unfinished song

3. You seem to be a lot more vocal on political issues lately, any affiliations or ambitions?

None. I am just one person that’s up for the rights of humans and I am always ready to help raise funds, lend a hand or voice where it’s needed.

4. If offered a political post would you accept it?

If it’s one that will effect immediate positive change in the lives of people and one that I am free to run the office as I can and want? Yes, but is there such a post?

5. What’s up with your artiste ‘Mbryo’?

I am working on his new songs with notable artists and restructuring his contract and management.
