Over the years, the Super Bowl stage has seen some of the most iconic performances from top music stars, and it’s not going to be any different this year as Rihanna is set to give a performance of a lifetime.
For years, the halftime show used to feature a performance by the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band until 1993, when pop icon, Michael Jackson changed the game that ushered in an expert level of preparedness for the football finale.
In anticipation of Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance, here are five outstanding Super Bowl Performances in the last decade.
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent (2022)

With a collaboration no one expected, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent had millions of viewers at the edge of their seats as they performed a blend of hip hop and R&B songs with 50 Cents ‘In Da Club’, Kendrick’s ‘Humble’, Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’, and Mary J. Blige’s ‘Family Affair.’
The performance that went on to win an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) was hosted by the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium.
Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars (2016)

It might have been Coldplay headlining the show, but Beyonce and Bruno Mars stole it with their performance of ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Formation’. The dance-off is one iconic moment that cannot be forgotten easily.
Maroon 5 (2019)

If you thought this was Rihanna’s first time getting invited to perform at the Super Bowl that would be wrong because she declined in 2019 after the NFL blacklisted Colin Kaepernick for taking a knee.
The performance included top music acts like Travis Scott and Big Boi. Maroon 5 performed some of their hit singles including ‘She Will Be Loved’, ‘Sugar’, ‘Moves Like Jagger’, and more.
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira (2020)

What makes a better show than Shakira slaying on the guitar and J.Lo on the stripper pole both singing their respective hit singles? Shakira performed her worldwide hit singles, ‘Hips Don’t Lie’, ‘Whenever Wherever’ while Jennifer Lopez performed ‘Jenny From the Block’ and ‘Ain’t It Funny’.
The performance also included a cameo from Lopez’s daughter, Emme, who sang Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.”
The Weeknd (2021)

Blinding Lights is one of the biggest pop songs of this decade, and The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance of the single proved that and more.
The performance, which centered on a haunted house theme, was simply cinematic.
We expect Rihanna to join the list of outstanding Super Bowl performances as she takes the stage this year to electrify the world with her performance.
Rihanna, who will be performing at The 2023 Super Bowl on Monday, February 13, 2023, exactly nine months after welcoming her child, is not receiving any pay for the performance.
The electrifying show will be live on DStv channel 218 and GOtv channel 37 from 12:30 am.
