He turned 25 years on July 18, 2015. He’s a Nigerian and a pop star in every sense of the word and his name is Wizkid.
Also known as the Starboy, Wizzy is indeed one of the leaders of new school sound and he’s doing his bit to take African music to the world. What we can tell you is he’s definitely getting attention.
As the list of those showing him love continues to swell daily, there are at least 5 winners of the coveted Grammy Awards who love his music and some of them have collaborated with him.
It all began with his collaboration with American R&B singer and Grammy winner, Chris Brown. The duo made headlines when they performed their yet-to-be-released duet, ‘African Bad Girl‘ together on stage in South Africa back in April this year.
Then on Sunday, July 12, 2015, the internet went blazing as Canada-born Grammy winning rapper, Drake and UK-based rapper, Skepta both hopped on ‘Ojuelegba‘, song adjudged as the best song off Wizkid’s second album, Ayo. Listen to it here.
As if that’s enough recognition, Grammy award winning rapper and producer, Swizz Beatz shared the artwork of Wizkid’s second album and a video of himself vibing to ‘Ojuelegba’.
15-time Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, incidentally the wife of Swizz Beatz, followed up with two Instagram videos of herself dancing to Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’ and ‘Caro’.
Truth be told, Wizkid is getting alot of International attention right now and it’s so good for Nigerian music. The 5th Grammy Award winner on the list is Angelique Kidjo. Wizkid confirmed he’s recorded a song with the 2-time Grammy winner for his forthcoming 3rd studio album in June.
And no doubt, the former EME act is onto something great if he keeps going this way.
