It’s just the 5th month of the year 2015 and already by our calculations, over 300 Nigerian songs have been released. Sadly you can count on one hand how many of these songs that have become hits.
Why can’t every released song become a hit? Well, that’s a topic for another day.
With a thorough understanding of the history, how the industry works and what the fans want, we project that these 3 songs are the next monster hit songs in the Nigerian music terrain.
But that is IF and only IF the artistes and their record labels continue to push and don’t take things for granted.
Kiss Daniel: ‘Laye’

With the huge success of his September 2014 released song ‘Woju‘ and the subsequent mixed reactions that trailed the remix version with Davido and Tiwa Savage, most people expected Kiss Daniel to flop with his next song.
Unfortunately, he came correct on his latest song titled ‘Laye’. You can argue that the song sounds somewhat similar to ‘Woju’, that’s probably because it was produced by the same producer DJ Coublon who is known for his signature drum roll sequence.
The song is fantastic, with a great melody, groovy feel and amazing production. The song is getting a lot of airplay but we think the kid and his team are taking it for granted. Not a lot of people on the street knows he’s dropped a new song, there’s no single post about the song on his Instagram page and even his tweets are minimal (learn from Don Jazzy when he drops a new song). You can’t take these things for granted, the competition is real.
Olamide: ‘Shakiti Bobo’

If you are a true fan of Olamide, then you should know his modus operandi by now. He always floods the market with new materials, and somehow one of the songs becomes a hit and he follows up with an album. Since he dropped his 4th album Street OT in November 2014, Olamide has dropped 5 new songs, a Joint album of 10 songs with Phyno and countless other collaborations but none of these songs have attained the almighty status of a ‘Hit Song‘.
Fortunately for him, his latest song, ‘Bobo‘ produced by Young John (The best producer in YBNL) is ‘The Song’. It’s a groovy song with a great beat and the resounding nursery rhyme ‘Shakiti bobo’ makes it a street favourite. He’s also gone a step further to create a seemingly well-accepted dance step for the song.
Koker: ‘Do Something’

This is surely one of the stand out songs from the newly released Chocolate City album titled ‘TICBN‘. Koker literarily killed it. he’s proved himself on M.I Abaga‘s song, ‘Rich‘ off the Chairman album and he nailed it again as a solo act on this song with the Sir Shina Peters groovy feel.
Chocolate City, please don’t sleep on this song.
