One of Nigeria’s most respected stand-up comedians and Master of ceremonies Holy Mallam has announced plans for two big-budget events to commemorate his brand’s 10th anniversary.
The Lagos-based act, who is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most responsible comic acts, and a model figure to many upcoming acts, says he’s leaving no stones unturned in celebrating 10 years of absolute excellence in both his personal and professional lives.
‘It’s been a very long journey. I remember very well how we started; the pictures are vivid in my memory. And I’m amazed by how far we’ve come. It’s God’s blessings and the support of several patrons and mentors that have brought us this far. So the idea is to have two major events where we chronicle the journey of Holy Mallam while plotting the graph for the path towards tomorrow’, the Lagos State University alumnus says.
Tagged ‘Chronicles of Holy Mallam’, the anniversary events will feature exciting performances, documentaries, drama sketches, wining and dining as well as recognition for key patron and mentors. ‘There’ll be at least 10 of my colleagues from comedy, music, Nollywood, Fashion, TV and Theatre joining me to thrill my VIP guests as we celebrate this major achievement together’ he tells NET.
Holy Mallam is a pioneer in his own brand of comedy, “Gospel Comedy”. He started this genre of comedy over 10 years ago when efforts to break through into the comedy industry proved futile, much less with his unique approach.
He is widely regarded as a titan in his own genre because he rose through the ranks and has built his reputation to become Nigeria’s most celebrated Gospel Comedian.
And the past few years have seen him penetrate corporate Nigeria – taking up major engagements from some of the biggest brands in Telecoms, Banking and Oil & Gas.
‘They like what they see and what they hear. We’ve kept it clean for 10 years and that’s what sets us apart. That’s why we’re the first point of call when major brands are looking to get an act that won’t embarrass them or their guests’
On Friday November 12, 2010, Holy Mallam will gather select fans, friends, family members, patrons, mentors, colleagues and top media executives for an exclusive dinner event at the Civic Centre in Lagos. The invite-only event will serve as the official anniversary do; while on Sunday November 14, a multitude of fans will gather at the Lagoon Restaurant in Lagos, for a public show that’ll feature Holy Mallam and some of his closest colleagues from the comedy, music and movie industries.
‘I’m very excited’, he says, ‘excited beyond limits because I’m living my life’s dreams, fulfilling my passion and bringing glory to God’s name with the talent he has invested in me. I can’t wait to roll out the carpet and share the sweet and sour stories of the past 10 years with you all…’
The name ‘Holy Mallam’ is all about fun, laughter, happiness and pleasure using responsible comedy sketches, patterns and language.
But on a closer look, you would realize that the name does not stand for comedy alone but represents and projects an image of clean jokes. He represents decency while having fun and enjoyment. Holy Mallam is a family-friendly comedian.
People often wonder what gave birth to the name ‘Holy Mallam’ because it is a blend of two contradictory words: ‘Holy’ and ‘Mallam’. The combination is a deliberate attempt to prompt questions so as to form a basis for communication and ultimately, contact.
Holy Mallam is a comedian as well as an MC who can hold his own in both the corporate and individual worlds as far as events are concerned. When you need someone who can hold his own in comedy without the customary disregard for guests by making discourteous and unwanted remarks about them, Holy Mallam is your man. He understands audience analysis; reading his audience excellently and carrying them along with impeccable oratory skills. That is why he is the most sought after MC/Compere around…
