Lately I have been listening to The Script. Now rock music in general always takes me to a different place. For the three to five minutes (hint hint Justin-nine-minute-long-songs-timberlake) a song lasts, I am somewhere happy.
The Script makes me want to take that further though. They make me want to start a band. But I feel it is too late… And then I saw a quote and thought, are things ever really late or is it just in our minds?
Check out my list below and feel free to include some of your own as well!
It is never too late to…
1. Start something new!
We often find ourselves stuck in a rot from time to time. But sometimes you have to remember the ten year old you who would pick a new habit, make a new friend, start something new. Don’t ever tell yourself there’s no point; infact, see doing something everyday that will scare you as a challenge and go ahead and scare yourself!
2. Dream a new dream
Have you been a lawyer all your life but suddenly, the idea of photography sounds good to you? Go ahead and buy a camera. Maybe you’ll never be a star paparazzi, but at least your classmates at law school or colleagues at the office will appreciate they have someone to turn to for professionally done pictures!
3. Change your mind
You may never realise how many stereotypes you sub-consciously hold on to until you make a conscious effort to change them. Rethink things! The truth is, it would be a battle to change your mind about certain things but an open mind is the best mind.
4. Learn to dance
If ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has shown us anything, it is that people who have never danced in their lives can learn how to dance. We may not all learn to salsa, but I think everyone should at least learn the azonto. Cammman!
5. Learn to smile
One would think this was easy but it would surprise you how many people go through life not knowing how to smile…when things are tough. It is easy to smile when you are happy and your favourite show is on. But smiling when the roof is caving in? Slightly mad, but also needed.
6. Use technology
Doesn’t it feel like there is always something new being developed? Well, whatever it is, get on board! Have fun with technology, have fun with progress. Imagine how we went from writing on tablets, to writing on paper, to ‘writing’ on a computer to ‘writing’…? Who knows? But whatever it is, be there, have fun with it, and that does not mean you have to throw out the old. I may own a kindle, but I will still buy a paperback. For me, turning a page is ‘sweet’.
7. Learn to play a new instrument
Like the way John Mayer plays? Or think Alicia Keys just kills the keys? (sorry, couldn’t resist). You may not become the music maestro but who says you can’t have some fun trying? Take a few lessons and invest some of that alcohol money (sacrilege!) in getting a musical instrument and have fun with it when life gets stressful.
8. Do the work you love
There are too many people who are currently doing the things they hate because it brings them the money they love. But what if it was possible to make the money you love doing the things you love? How will you know if you never try?
9. Quit a bad habit
Now, this may be the hardest of all! Learning to do something new is easier than unlearning to do something old. According to research. *straight face*
How many times have you tried to quit smoking? Try again. How about not having one more drink for the road? Or leaving your nails alone? (#SelfSub).
10. Love yourself!
Remember when at number 9 I said that was the hardest? Scrap that! THIS is the hardest!
Beneath all the wise tweets and fake laughs is a simple truth- most people just don’t like themselves! They pretend to, but they don’t. And it is time to change that! You can’t go through life being your own worst enemy you know
I leave you with C.S Lewis- ‘You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.’
