Football fans can look forward to the Last 16, second-leg action from the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League in the midweek of Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 March 2021.
Tuesday 9 March features Italian champions Juventus looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit when they host Portuguese giants Porto in Turin at 9 pm on SuperSport Premier League (DStv Channel 203). Goals from Mehdi Taremi and Malian Moussa Marega secured a home win for the Dragons, who will hope to complete a shock result and advance to the quarterfinals.
“We studied Juventus well. The team assimilated very well what the coach asked. We knew that we had to press hard to keep Juventus from playing. In these type of games, it’s difficult to concede goals at home, but we played a great game,” said Porto veteran Pepe.
Tuesday also sees Dortmund looking to secure progression over La Liga side Sevilla, having won 3-2 in Spain to make them clear favourites when the teams meet again at the Westfalen Stadion. The match provides another opportunity for Erling Haaland to showcase his status as one of the next great strikers. Catch this match at 9pm on SuperSport Grandstand, SuperSport Variety 1 (DStv Channel 201 & 206).
Wednesday 10 March is headlined by the return game between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in the French capital at 9 pm on SuperSport Grandstand, SuperSport Variety 1. PSG secured a stunning 4-1 win in Spain last month, with Kylian Mbappe netting a hat-trick, and it’s hard to see how the Blaugrana can find a way back into the tie – even with the legendary Lionel Messi in their ranks.
“I could tell you lies but the fact is that at 4-1 down from the home leg, there are very few chances of going through. This match shows us how much we have to improve, particularly at Champions League level,” said Barca coach Ronald Koeman.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Liverpool will look to put aside their domestic struggles and secure a place in the Champions League quarterfinals by finishing off the challenge of RB Leipzig at 9 pm on SuperSport Premier League. The Reds won 2-0 in Germany last month (with goals from African stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane) and even their poor recent form at Anfield should not be enough to stumble in this tie.
“Obviously, we need to make up the two goals to at least get to extra time. But it starts from 0-0 again and we showed that we do have it in us to match them and create chances. We have to do that in the return leg and cut out the mistakes,” said Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann.
DStv can see all their favourite stars from the African continent dominating matches in the UEFA Champions League.
