Nigerian singer Portable has responded to being declared wanted by the Ogun Police Command, pleading his innocence after being accused of repeatedly ignoring official invitations from law enforcement.
On Monday, Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun police, confirmed that Portable was declared wanted due to his failure to respond to multiple formal summons. The controversy stems from an incident that occurred on February 5, when officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) attempted to seal Portable’s bar over unapproved permits and insufficient airspace. During the operation, the singer was alleged to have assaulted the officials, which further escalated the situation.
In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, Portable denied any wrongdoing, explaining that he had been dealing with health issues, which led him to avoid the police invitations. He expressed his fear of detention, insisting he had not committed any crimes.
“I am not a criminal. I was sick and scared,” Portable stated. “They set me up with the government. I do not want to die young or be locked up. If I wronged anyone, I am sorry.”
In a follow-up post, Portable shared a photo of a scar on his body, claiming he had been hospitalized due to persistent pain. The singer attributed his struggles to what he described as a “spiritual attack” and appealed for divine intervention.
“All this evil thing happening to me is a spiritual attack,” he wrote. “God, save me. I’m facing a lot of sicknesses all over my body. I’m taking care of myself. Pain in my body… Make Ogun State government forgive me.”
Portable went on to ask for forgiveness from the Ogun State government and pleaded with them not to allow his “enemies” to shame him, emphasizing his love for his children and his desire to see joy in his life once more.
Meanwhile, the fallout from the altercation continues. Following the incident, nine of Portable’s associates were arrested and arraigned on a five-count charge, which includes assault, armed violence, felony, obstruction, and attempted murder. The accused were granted bail at N5 million each, with the condition of securing licensed bond agents as sureties.
The legal proceedings are set to continue, with the case adjourned to March 17 for further hearing.
