After a brief hiatus, NET can reveal that the duo of Mad Melon and Mountain Black (better known as Danfo Drivers) are back in studio putting finishing touches to their forthcoming fourth studio album titled New Chapter. The album, which is a follow up to their disappointing third project Meshango, is expected to hit stores in the first quarter of 2011.
The ill-fated Meshango album may have gotten the Danfo Drivers an award at the Nigeria Entertainment Film Festival and Awards (NEFFA) in 2009 and also gave the duo the opportunity to perform in major cities across Europe, but the project fell short of expectations both commercially and in the eyes of the group’s followers.
The forthcoming album will be on the duo’s own record label SUO Entertainment and according to a spokesperson for the group, ‘the upcoming album will contain different blends of reggae and dancehall rhythms and we (the Danfo Drivers) are also looking forward to collaborate with some other artistes on this project’.
It will be recalled that Danfo Driver came to the limelight in 2003 with their debut album Danfo Driver: True Story which spawned the monster hit Danfo Driver (Suo). The group’s second album Danfo Travel: Success Story was released in ’05 and was also successful; the album contained the club favourite Kpolongo.
