In 2000, a young Nigerian boy by the name of Damilola Taylor was fatally stabbed in Peckam, London. He was only ten years old and his senseless murder by British brothers Ricky and Danny Preddie shocked the country and the world deeply.
BBC One has produced a 90 minute drama titled Damilola Our Beloved Boy to tell the story of the ill-fated Damilola who met his end less than three months after his family left Lagos for a better life in London. It was not to be.
According to screenwriter Levi David Addai, the movie seeks to tell the story of the Taylor family from when they were in Nigeria, the effect of Damilola’s death on them and the family’s quest for justice.
Damilola Our Beloved Boy will premiere on BBC One on November 7.
