Yeni Kuti has for the first time in many years, opened up about her love life.
The stage dancer/trainer and daughter of late Afrobeat legend Fela Akinkulapo Kuti while speaking in a recent interview with The SUN revealed she’s been dating a man for a couple of years and they are quite ‘happy together’. She however did not disclose the identity of her lover.
‘Now I have a man that is handsome, hardworking and very nice; he is a genuinely nice person and we are happy together and we’ve been dating for a numbers of years now’, she told Nike Bakare of The SUN.
YK Power (as she’s popularly called) says they have no plans for marriage as they don’t want to jinx what they have.
‘There are no wedding bells for now; we are happy the way we are. We don’t need marriage to be happier. Who knows, we might get married and start arguing, fussing and fighting’.
Yeni Kuti was married for two years to Femi Segun (who recently passed away). Their relationship bore a daughter Rolari Segun. While giving advice on relationships, Kuti said she regrets marrying Segun because she ‘went for the looks and not the money’.
‘First I will say take things slowly and don’t rush into any relationship. Get to know whoever your partner is. It’s not just about looks or money because you can meet someone with good looks but nasty character and end up with a monster. Learn about the person you are dating. Take advice from me because I have a story. I went for the looks and not the money and I regretted many times over’, she revealed.
Yeni Kuti turns 53 on May 24, 2014.
