Speaking in a recent interview, when asked if he had been Spain captain who would he have voted for the Ballon d’Or’ the star who had been named third for the award 3 times, said:
‘First Leo (Lionel Messi). Second (Philipp) Lahm and third (Javier) Mascherano.‘
Commenting on Cristiano Ronaldo for 2014 Ballon d’Or award he said:
‘The thing is, Cristiano didn’t do much in the World Cup and I think that in the year of the World Cup that defines much of the season.’
Meanwhile, that is the opinion of Xavi but the trio of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer are the final three contenders for the prestigious award.
The winner will be announced on Monday, January 12, 2015.
