The Italian Giants have recorded their first shock defeat of the World Cup tournament
The match, played on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Arena Pernambuco, Recife, saw the Costa Ricans book their place in the round of 16 with a 1 – 0 victory, emerging the first in Group D to qualify after defeating England in their first match.
The Italians’ efforts to score an equalizing goal was ruled out after Fulham striker Bryan Ruiz gave the team the lead in the first half.
Italy will face Uruguay in their last group stage tournament, in a match that will decide who joins Costa Rica to the round of sixteen. Both teams holds three points each after defeating England, who is automatically out of the World cup.
